In My B.E., I did an internship which really changed my life and career. When I was in second and third year, I visited many Pune tech fests. Many of  my seniors were winning project contests. I really got excited and decided to do project in B.E and win those  contests.

I formed team of 4 guys for the project and got selected for “Persistent System Limited” internship which is a product company based out of Pune. I wanted to complete my project in 1st sem only so that I could participate in contests in 2nd semester. But it was not as simple as I thought. Couple of my team members were not supportive and they wanted to enjoy their last year of engineering. Now I was left with 1 team member who was really helpful. We worked on project called ‘Network Based Search Engine’. We built this using open source technology “Lucene”. Our guide was really supportive and reachable. I learned a lot about IT industry, Technology, Open source, Leadership skills, SDLC during this process

By mid of 2nd semester we had almost completed our project & we decided to participate in the contests. We were very confident of selection for the 1st round if not winning.

Here comes the shocker!

We were not even selected for the first round. That was really disappointing but we didn’t lose hope and made our project more attractive with new features solving real life intranet problems. We took feedback from our college professors, HODs and even deployed it on college servers for students and staff to use.

As they say “Hard work always pays, sooner or later”, our project was selected for the best final year project and was awarded “Gold Medal”. Things didn’t stop here only. I got the job only because of the project and the technology that  learned while doing it. Today Search Engine is my major skill and I am working as  a Technical Architect at a product company and it’s because of my internship.
