Familiarize yourself with the latest of Biogas technology, composting, and vermin-composting techniques and set an example of how technology, if deployed right, can touch the lives of the people at the bottom of the pyramid! About SMS: – Stree Mukti Sanghatana (http://www.streemuktisanghatana.org) is an NGO which has directed its efforts towards the uplifting of women by creating social awareness about their issues and issues related to equality, peace and development. It is an apolitical, autonomous, voluntary organization based in Mumbai.
Parisar Vikas is one of the most celebrated programs that SMS has come up with in recent years which is able to meet its operational cost and has developed sustainable programs for the urban poor. Through this program, SMS provides employment opportunities and gives a much more hygienic and healthier environment to waste pickers. In course of time, they have collaborated with many housing societies, who now don’t hand over their waste to BMC which otherwise would have landed in the dumping grounds. The Parisar Bhaginis take care of the waste, both dry and wet. While the dry waste is used for recycling, the wet waste is used for composting, Biogas Production. Presently SMS has tied up with BARC which is helping them with their own developed Biogas Plant model (Nisargruna).
The list of awards that have been conferred on the team (Ashok fellowship, invitee to Clinton Global Initiative in 2010 to name a few) speaks volumes about the impact SMS has had on the lives of thousands of people.
