Getting an internship in a world renowned college was a dream come true for me. But before that let me tell you, students getting internships at foreign universities is not a new thing, its just that majority people don’t really know how to apply for the same and clearly Internshala has done a great job in bridging that gap.

2nd year of the college ended and hence started the internship scenario. Being a chemical engineering student, industrial training is an important part of our studies. So people flung towards famous brand names viz IOCL, ONGC and many other companies. The general perspective of a normal Engineering student towards internship is about getting the certificate and not the knowledge behind it. Many people I knew did the same. But I was just not into industries at that point of time. I wanted to do something different, something that had no connection with my studies whatsoever. Something, that introduced me to a new world altogether.
Daily Winner for: – 12th August 2013
Name of the intern: – Ila Banerjee

Manga, Samurai, Hello Kitty, Geisha, iconic avenues of Cherry Blossoms, paper palaces… I’ve always been extremely fascinated by Japan. So much so that I even insisted on learning Japanese (not an easy ride by any means) when I was a kid so I could watch anime without subtitles! So naturally, when I got the opportunity to spend the summer doing a research internship at the University of Tokyo, I didn’t look left or right – I simply grabbed it!

Sins of past seldom do leave you. This philosophy remains with you for the entire life when you confront successive “no shortlist” during summer placements for securing 68% in your 12th standard. All the ghosts of past (read bunked classes in schools and tuitions) float in front of you when leading paint and chocolate companies do not call you for an interview during day zero of summer placements. You tend to lose you cool and a lot of things after such high impact kicks in your confidence even if you have more than 75% in your 10th standard and engineering. Being a fresher and majoring in industrial safety and environmental management, consultancy firm was the last place I would have liked to intern but the slots were exhausted and so were the manufacturing firms.
