Internshala is happy to announce the results of Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2014. Â Congratulations Sweety Kumari!
Sweety, selected among 750 applicants, is a very determined 1st year M.A student of Psychology at Jai Prakash University, Chapra, Bihar with an inspiring story – despite facing societal pressure (she is the only girl in her family, and possibly in her locality, to have enrolled for a Post graduate degree), financial hurdles (her father is a farmer with a modest income and a family of 6 to support) and physical disability (65% loss of movement in her legs); she has not given up her dream of becoming a lecturer one day and wants to write UGC – NET exam after her post graduation. Sweety has maintained first class academic performance throughout her academic career and also supplements her father’s income by taking tuition for primary school students in her neighborhood.
Sweety wants to use the scholarship amount to buy a motorized tricycle for herself that would make her daily commute to college easy.
Internshala salutes Sweety for her grit and determination and feels honored to have chosen her as the winner of Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2014. Well done Sweety – we sincerely hope that the scholarship amount helps you give wings to your career dreams and inspires many more girls and women throughout the country to pursue their own dreams even more relentlessly.
Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls was instituted on 29th December 2012 due to the sad coincidence of the Delhi rape victim’s passing away on the same day as that of Internshala’s second anniversary. We have aimed to advance one girl’s career every year through  an award of Rs. 25,000.
The selection criteria for the scholarship award are four-fold:
- An element of fighting against odds
- An element of achievement
- An element of purpose
- An element of need
