How an online training helped me land a job at Accenture
About the Author: Abhishek Bhattacharya is pursuing B.Tech from Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology. He shares how he learnt data analytics from scratch and aced the interview at Accenture with the project he built during an online training.
‘Think big, believe big, and act big. The results will eventually be big.’
I had always been motivated to learn newer technological concepts and make relevant use of them, but I wasn’t familiar with any useful tutorials or trainings. After surfing the internet rigorously, I found a perfect training – Internshala’s Data Analytics training – which was in collaboration with Analytics Vidhya. I also had the opportunity to compete in Internshala’s Young Achiever Scholarship 2017, and I was one of the winners and got one training of my choice free of cost! This scholarship was a blessing in disguise for me since I was eager to learn but had financial constraints.
I began my training with the excitement of building a project just after 4 weeks. The content was exquisite and was perfect for a beginner with no or little knowledge of analytics. The training started with lucid explanations of basic terminologies like business analytics, data mining, complete analysis spectrum, etc. with the help of pictorial representations, examples, and video tutorials. Moving forward, I understood various case studies and the practical usage of these terms. I had been skeptical about taking up a virtual training but within the first week itself, I realised how interactive and informative it was. In the second week, I learned MS Excel and its importance in analytics. The tutorials in this section were awesome and absolutely necessary to have a grasp on advanced concepts used in Excel such as VLookup, HLookup, and pivot tables. In the third week, I learned several topics related to statistics and probability such as normal distribution, central limit theorem, etc. I was stuck on central limit theorem but when I started browsing the support forum, all my doubts were cleared. Wrapping up the training in the final week, I learned about hypothesis testing with case studies and gained an insight into predictive modeling. I also learned about regression models which was a foundation for my final project, 3 Variable Regression Model using MS-Excel. I enjoyed a lot while working on this project. The provision to revisit different modules and revise the concepts fostered completion of the project. The weekly quizzes, case studies, support forum, and live chat facility made it possible for me to get through with the training easily. The training mentors were ‘Avengers of Analytics’. I would recommend Internshala Trainings any day.
The best part of taking up this training was that I had an edge during my interview at Accenture. It was a group interview so I had to stand out from my peers to get the job. The interviewer asked me why I wanted to work in IT despite being an electronics graduate. I told them that IT attracted me and that I had even built an analytics project, which was a core computer science project. I was asked to explain the project, and I did. I explained the 3 variable regression model including case studies, use of pivot tables, and formulas. The interviewers were satisfied and extended me a job offer. I cannot thank Internshala enough for making it possible for me to move forward and keep learning.
