Internshala – A launch pad for dreamers

Hi, I’m Manas Barpande, and I’ve recently joined Internshala as a content writer aka Editor-in-Chief.

To be honest, when I first applied for this job I wasn’t exactly sure if I was making the right decision. I was making a career switch by not going for the traditional job in my field, biotechnology. I had been doing freelance writing for a couple of years and, with time, I realized that I was meant to hold a pen rather than a pipette and editing stories instead of research articles. When I applied, I just hoped to get a platform to prove my mettle; however, as I delved more into the Internshala blog- reading the team diary entries, internship stories, posts shedding light on higher education etc., I realized the huge impact it was making on the students. My desire to work for this startup amplified. One fine afternoon, I got an email which stated that I was required to write two articles for them as a part of their selection procedure. Until that moment this was just one job I had applied to, among a couple of others; however, when I finally finished writing those articles, I really understood how much I craved for this. It was as if subconsciously I already knew that this job was ‘the one’!

When I got the offer letter from Sarvesh and came to know that I could use the signature “Editor-in-Chief”, I was elated. I was supposed to join within a couple of days and it was a total chaos. And, now, on this chilly morning in the fog-covered Gurgaon, I’m sitting in this cozy office, writing about what I expect from this content writing stint. I have completed my first month at Internshala and it has been a helluva journey! Luckily for me, I joined during the celebratory spree; within the first week of my joining, I had experienced the Christmas celebration, a house party on New Year’s Eve, and an outing to Pratapgarh Farms on Internshala’s fifth birthday! The informal environment, no cubicles, open communication without any hierarchy, Cricket and Football matches, Counter Strike attacks, and the bhukkad-panti during the lunch hours make for a great work culture.

I had always wanted to be the part of a startup, and I want to make the most of this opportunity. I hope to write meaningful posts- about internships, the quest for the true passion, career development, startup recruitment- everything that could be useful for millions of students out there. I also hope to write resourceful articles for the employers and interview HR executives about their recruitment processes. And, of course, I hope to grow as a writer.

In a nutshell, I want to bring a real change in the ad-hoc internship culture in India. I wish to do the work that I’ll be proud to talk about. As the mantra of Internshala, radiating from the sensuous blue wall, goes- “DO EPIC SHIT”.
