How I Got Through Microsoft’s Hacking Challenge
About the Author: Anup Kumar Kalita is pursuing B.Tech in Information Technology from IIIT, Allahabad. He signed up for Internshala Trainings for the Hacking training. He recounts his experience and shares how it helped him to clear the first round of Microsoft’s prestigious hacking challenge.
Since the day I enrolled my name in Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, I had heard a lot about how internships are helpful in one’s career. That’s why one day I searched about the internships available in India. The first link that I clicked led me to Internshala’s website, and I was amazed! I searched everything that the Internshala offered to the students, and that’s when I came to know about the online training given by Internshala. It is an excellent step taken by the Internshala team for the students.
As I was really interested in ethical hacking, I signed up for an online Hacking training provided by Internshala. It was a one month course starting from 1st December 2015 where web basics, cracking & XSS, and file upload vulnerabilities were taught. And that’s how I started to work on my passion for hacking. I learned a lot about the basics of hacking. In the training, I scored 76.67% in the final test. With this knowledge and my efforts, I cracked my first hacking challenge named ‘Build The Shield’.
One of the most famous hacking challenges, ‘Build The Shield’ is organised by Microsoft and held only in India and USA every year. It is a team event in which each team consists of four members. The preliminary round was 24 hours long. In this round, there were 19 questions out of which we solved 10 questions and secured 38th position in India with 1400 marks. As top 50 teams are selected for the final onsite round, we are also selected for the same. It will be held at Microsoft India Hyderabad campus. It is a big opportunity for me to explore companies like Microsoft in the 2nd year of my technical studies. Microsoft will reimburse our full travel expenses in addition to providing free accommodation in Hyderabad. I am very much excited for this final onsite event and working hard to prepare for it.
On a parting note, I would like to thank the entire Internshala team from the core of my heart. I am eager to do more advanced courses on hacking with Internshala Trainings. You all are doing a fantastic job, and I hope you keep encouraging students like me.
