How I followed my interest in the stock market and secured an internship at Bajaj Capital Ltd
About the author: Swasti Mishra, a first-year B.Com (Hons.) student at Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University, shares how she secured an internship at Bajaj Capital Ltd after joining Internshala Trainings to learn Financial Modeling and Valuation and Beginner’s Trading Certification.
The winter break was drawing near when I read a Whatsapp message on my college group about Internshala Trainings. Because I had no plans, I went ahead and browsed through the different trainings. Being a commerce student, I was drawn to Financial Modeling and Valuation and Beginner’s Trading Certification. I had always had a keen interest in the stock market because my grandfather is well-versed in it. I used to see him trading and watching CNBC to keep himself updated, which piqued my curiosity. So when the opportunity to learn about the stock market knocked on my door, I decided to take it and get certified in the process.
The self-paced nature of trainings made it extremely convenient for me to follow it. My favourite parts of the trainings were the summary at the end of each module and the option to download videos for future reference. The tests after each topic helped me in revising and evaluating my understanding of the topic.
During my Beginner’s Trading Certification training, I learnt a great deal about NIFTY and SENSEX. Although I could relate these terms to the stock market earlier, I gained a deeper understanding of their importance and learnt about the benefits of investing in them. The course also introduced me to TrakInvest, a virtual trading platform where I can practise trading with virtual cash. The Financial Modeling and Valuation training enhanced my knowledge of Excel to help me present my data better and taught me to analyse financial statements. I also learnt a thing or two about making personal finance decisions.
The training brought about a significant change in my technical knowledge which boosted my confidence. This helped me in applying to Bajaj Capital Ltd during an internship fair at our college. Although I had no prior work experience, the trainings that I had taken gave me an edge, and I was shortlisted for the interview round based on my resume. I cleared this round and was called for another personal interview at their main office in Gurugram. At the end of the recruitment process, I was offered an internship for the role of a financial analyst.
The internship started earlier this month. It is taking place virtually instead of in-office due to COVID-19 outbreak. We are currently learning about their work through representatives of different companies that they work with such as Kotak Mutual Funds, Nippon Mutual Funds, and Aditya Birla Sun Life. They are teaching us about wealth creation, insurance, mutual funds, SIP, etc. We are also learning about different aspects of the stock portfolio which I can grasp easily because of the basics I learnt during my online training.
Lastly, I have also started helping my grandfather in making his decisions, and he seems to be all for it!
