Winter Internship in Delhi/Work from home – Economic Research – Youth for Policy and Dialogue

About Youth for Policy and Dialogue: – Youth for Policy and Dialogue (www.youthpolicy.in) focuses to leverage the opportunity for the Youth. The inherent philosophy of the organization lies in the dual tenets of Dialogue & Public policy. Company develops Policy by involving young people into policy evaluation, creation & innovation. Under the Dialogue initiative, company wishes to organize summits, conferences & conventions focused on its core areas.
About Internship: – The internship is to take forward a project to build an index on sustainable and inclusive growth considering 39 parameters across social, economic, environmental and institutional levels for India and then building similar comparable indices for some other countries based both on present and past data.

Who can apply: – The students should have a background in Economics, good understanding of macro parameters for development, knowledge about developing indices and good writing skills.
Location: – New Delhi/Work from home
Duration: – 2 months
Start date: – December, 2012
Stipend: – This is an unpaid internship.
Internship specific question: – Along with your application please upload answers to the following internship specific questions (.pdf, .doc, .rtf, <1MB): –
1. What do you understand by institutional parameters of development?
2. Is Per Capita Income a measure of economic development or social development? Which of two would you prefer to categorize it in when considering index development?
3. What, in your opinion, is the significance of sustainable and inclusive growth? Give some policy initiatives of the government aimed at inclusive and sustainable growth? The examples may be aimed at either one of them but imperative to quote examples for both.
4. The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan saw a budgetary allocation of over 25000 crores in FY 2012-13. This was a close to 20 per cent rise over the previous year’s allocation. Does this signify progress in the sphere of education? Why/Why Not? Based on your analysis, what do you infer about the kind of parameters required to build a development specific index?
