Internship at Readers’ Club of Delhi – Heena from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi
Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement. Heena is pursuing Mechanical engineering and shares her wonderful experience of internship days.
“I am in love with the places I’ve never been to, and the people I’ve never met.” Books transcend me to a dreamworld of my own and enable me to touch the depths of a person’s soul as he paints his story in the 200 or so odd pages of an ordinary book. For me it is the closest I can get to an unfamiliar figure, see his life churn in and out, spanning across the length of those humbled pages, and visit a complete foreign world he wants me to experience. Books are a tangible beauty, full of life, demanding love. And that’s what I shed upon them – Love.
One day as I was sitting idle, working hard to dawdle the day away, I came across a post from Readers’ Club of Delhi while aimlessly scrolling down my newsfeed on facebook. I googled it up and jumped up with excitement to find that this was a community of book-lovers, readers and writers, brimming with creativity and life. And that “latent fire” of love inside me was stirred and began to pour out more than I could imagine as I immediately decided that I needed to be a part of it. Prancing upon these thrilling thoughts of mine and pushed forward by all the positive vibes I was getting in the moment, I mailed my resume to them the very same night and was soon enveloped by hazy clouds of a delightful slumber, very happy and peaceful!
Within a few days, I got a call from its co-founder, Kashish Badar, informing me that I had been shortlisted and would have to send over copies of a few articles that I must have had experience with, to get started. With a wide grin spread across my face, I mailed her my articles ( FYI, I love to read and I write sometimes), very confident of my selection. Soon I received a call from her, elating me with the good news and I was beaming from head to toe.
I was told that there are different profiles in Readers’ Club from doing poetry and articles to covering mega-events as a columnist to reviewing books! I gladly chose to be a book reviewer (for the aforementioned thing, I told you, I’ve for books)! Still there are varieties of genres in books and to be frank, I didn’t feel comfortable in reviewing all kinds of them. To be reading and enjoying a book is one thing, but to dive to the depths of a book, representing a specific genre, that you’re not very familiar with, differs leaps and bounds from simply reading away its chapters at leisure. So I decided that I could not capture the essence of a book justifiably if it it was a genre that I could not relate with. And hence my choice of books to be reviewed narrowed down to the “chick-lit” category, the books that are mostly comical, emotional, blaring out a social message, and are necessarily “made for the heart”.
Until now, I am in love with my territory of books and resolve to transgress the boundary soon as my learning curve takes a steep upturn and I begin to grow and see myself as a professional in this field. Until then, I can only thank Reader’s Club of Delhi to acknowledge me in their widespread team of strong dreamers, reading- enthusiasts and creativity-savourers. I am still interning with them and wish to continue with it for a long time to come. For all that matters ultimately is the book that I cozily go to bed with, at the end of the day, before that “peaceful slumber” returns to encompass me with its thick haze once again .
