An applicant’s internship cover letter
We recently received this as a cover letter for an internship opening at Internshala and the novelty of the write up caught our attention and left us smiling. Tell us what you think?
A Letter to my ‘Three-months and two weeks-older-future-self’
Dated: 30th October’13
Hello, ‘the-new-now-22’ me.
How are people of the world, or rather your current employers at Internshala treating you? It’s they who matters the most, right? Cause lately they have been your world, giving you a chance to learn new things while getting their work done. So, are they making you permanent just yet or throwing you out, forbidding you not to be seen miles around their office? Anyway that’s a long way to go. But, today your first internship got over. First? Really? Not, second? Ohh ya, last time you paid them to let you intern. Thankfully this time, you didn’t have to.
Three months ago from this day, where you’re now, did you even think that of all the intelligent, smart, high-scorers in the world, you would get that internship? No, I can tell cause am here. You remember the application form? Boy, were they hiring for the post of an intern or the CEO of a magazine? It looked more horrifying than the aptitude round of TCS. Thankfully the team was generous enough to let you in, else this application form would have not only haunted you for years, and but would have found a place at the top of ‘The-List’, of all the imbroglio that your life is. How badly you were hoping that this won’t turn out to be a fiasco and they would be more than willing to hire you. It’d have been such a shame if they hadn’t. But somewhere you knew you’d get this. ‘Power of Thinking Without Thinking’ yeah? After all, that is how it happens in all the picchurs. Remember Anne Hathaway in ‘The-Devil-Wears-Prada’. Only, that you’re not Anne Hathaway, and this is not a Hollywood flick. You my girl, are the ‘best-damaged-good’, and remember that article in Times Ascent, about ‘damaged-goods-being-in-demand’? So, if they wouldn’t have cared to go through your application even after reading ya, name, or rejected you, then it wouldn’t have been entirely your loss. They’d have missed out on so much, free publicity, marketing and the duaayein (blessings) too.
What would you have missed? A lifetime chance to learn new things? Oh man, you won’t even get this chance again. How can one undergraduate after graduation? My talents have not explored those boundaries yet. And, what else? Maggie. Free MAGGIE!! Thank God, no one had to miss out on anything. Who knows when in an utterly vindictive state, dear Lord might have manufactured one piece, who’s application might have appealed to them more and you’d have been left alone, sulking, that too without Maggie. But then, you got it. Now, you can decide whether you want to stick with your plan to start your own company. Yes you will. And, then you will write your first article about your internship at Internshala and publish it in your magazine.
Am so happy for you. Sitting here, three months before I can feel the excitement that you must be feeling. But, then three months from now, and then I’ll be there, congratulating you, and then we’d go PARTY. I love you still and will.
‘Your-3-months-younger-inexperienced-self’
P.S.
Calvin: It’s not fair!
Mom: Life is unfair Calvin.
Calvin: I know but why can’t it be unfair in my favour?
Hehehe, now it is. :)
