An employer’s guide to Internshala services
Here are a few expert tips for helping the employers to make the best use of Internshala services –
Before Hiring:
1. Writing an Internship Job Description (JD) – Be very specific and clearly outline the roles and responsibilities. It helps candidates gauge if they’re a right fit to the internship and more importantly, it helps you avoid the irrelevant ones. Here’s an example.
– If you’re planning to hire interns for different profiles (web development, content writing, etc.), you should make different posts. It saves you from the pain of segregating applications for different profiles.
– Internshala also gives you an option to add some custom questions that students will need to answer before submitting their applications. You can know the candidate’s expectations or judge her fit through these questions.
Assessing applications (While Hiring):
1. Process ASAP – Internshala updates you on a daily basis about the applications received. Process them as soon as possible lest you miss out on a great candidate to some other company. Change applicant status from ‘open’ to ‘shortlisted’– Internshala will notify them.
2. Give them a short assignment – It should ideally take 2-4 hrs to complete. It hardly takes any effort from applicants to upload a CV and answer a few questions. But by giving them an assignment, you can pick out the best candidates.
3. Always interview. It helps in a) judging the cultural fit and verifying the facts mentioned on CV, b) bringing the expectations of both the parties on the common ground.
Also, always schedule the interview and notify the candidate beforehand through a mail asking them to confirm the specific date, time and/or place. This gives the candidate enough time to research about the company and prep for the interview.
Upon hiring:
1. Always change the application status to ‘Hired’: It kicks off an automated process intimating the student’s college authorities and requesting them to issue an online No Objection Certificate. This step ensures greater accountability on part of the candidate.
2. Issue a formal offer letter – and ask the candidate to sign and return a scanned copy as formal acceptance. It is not a match until both the parties say ‘Yes’. You could download a Sample Offer Letter.
Also, keep a few candidates as back up. If the chosen intern doesn’t accept the offer, you could extend it to the next best candidate.
