Summer Internship with The Learning Point – Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science – Virtual Internship
Now an internship which is Engineering branch and year agnostic (if you have interest and Physics and Mathematics that is), allows you to work from home/campus, keeps you engaged in meaningful work during summers, pays a decent stipend, and most importantly provides a great learning experience. Those familiar with Khan Academy story on youtube, may relate with this better, this internship is your chance to be part of a similar quest. Indulge in your love for Physics & Maths (two most beautiful subjects EVER) and CS & Electrical Engineering and bring it to life for thousands of others to benefit. About The Learning Point: – The Learning Point (http://www.thelearningpoint.net) is working to launch learning into the web and pixel space. To create repositories of tutorials, e-learning software and advanced visualizations to enable students to access education regardless of how accessible colleges might be.
The founding Member, Prashant Bhattacharji, is an IIT Kharagpur graduate (class of 2006). Prashant worked at Lehman India for a year followed by a brief stint at the Microsoft Headquarters in Redmond, after which he returned to India in 2010 to work independently and transform the education space.
About Internship: – There are 2 categories of internship opportunities available
- In first category the interns would work on creating repository of tutorials for Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering courses.
- In 2nd category, the selected interns would work on creating visualizations. You will be expected to create graphics with Processing ( http://www.rocessing.org)

Who can apply: – Students from IITs, IIITs & NIT (all year and branches but required knowledge and interest in creating the tutorials). The candidate should be fluent in English and be able to write grammatically correct English.
For 2nd category of internships (creating visualizations), Computer Science or Electrical Engineering students with any sort of background in Graphics or Image processing and who have created 2D or 3D visualizations with OpenGL/ JavaGraphics, etc. will be preferred.
Location: – Work from home. All you need is an internet connection.
Minimum Duration: – 1 month (extendable depending on student’s academic calendar)
Start date: – May 2012
Stipend: – 10,000/- per month + A certificate, letter of appreciation and your name will be added to the list of learningpoint contributors ( on the website ).
Internship specific question: – Along with your application, please upload answers to two or more of the below internship specific questions ( .pdf, .doc, .rtf, <1MB). The answer to first question is mandatory:-
a). Which of the two internship profiles are you interested in?
b) What do you know about what’s happening in the online education space ? What are your thoughts on where it might head ?
c) (More relevant for those interested in creating graphics and visualizations ) You need to make a set of visualizations to supplement course material in Complex Numbers. What kind of visualizations come to your mind ? What are the concepts which could be demonstrated visually ? This is an open ended question – there are no right or wrong answers.
