Global Sustainability Summer School 2012- Potsdam, Germany
The Global Sustainability Summer School 2012 is an intensive two-week, all expense paid summer school program that will be organized jointly by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), in partnership with the Santa Fe Institute (SFI). It will explore global sustainability issues from a complex system perspective with particular focus on risks, uncertainties, and extreme events. The program is open to post graduates, research scholars, faculty members, and young professionals. The participation is limited to 35 seats and last date to apply is March 1st, 2012 – hurry!
About GSSS 2012: – The Global Sustainability Summer School 2012 (http://www.gsss-potsdam.org/) will comprise lectures, field trips and interactive project activities. Field trips will lead to the German parliament, a carbon-capture-and-storage demonstration site, and an artist’s workshop in Berlin. Each participant will produce an op-ed article to be published in his/her local media and will take part in a scientific illustration exercise. Students will also be involved in constructing agent-based models or staging a theatre performance, according to their personal preferences and educational backgrounds. Students are expected to attend the program for the full two weeks. All activities will be conducted in English.
Who can apply: – Applicants are welcome from all countries. Applications are solicited from advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior and senior faculty in any discipline, as well as individuals from government agencies and the private sector. Women, minorities and students from developing countries are especially encouraged to apply. Enrollment is limited to 35 participants.
Location: – Potsdam, Germany
Duration: – 2 weeks (July 8 – July 21, 2012)
Fees: – No tuition is charged, 100% of housing and meals are covered. Students are expected to provide their own travel funding. A few travel scholarships may be awarded based on the needs and availability of funds.
