How to get an internship at BOSCH
Robert Bosch GmbH or Bosch, is a German multinational engineering and electronics company headquartered in Gerlingen, near Stuttgart, Germany. Founded by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart in 1886, it is currently the world’s largest supplier of automotive components measured by 2011 revenues.
Who are eligible to apply ?
For applying, one needs to have completed his/her second year of under-graduation in any engineering field. Bosch visits a few selected colleges in India where it mainly focuses on Mechanical, Electronics or Computer Science Engineering students. The company considers resumes from other streams but they need to apply online. Bosch also offers internships in Business Studies. The period of internship may vary from one to twelve months depending on your availability.
How to apply ?
Interested students can apply through the following methods-
a. Company website (apply here). You can narrow down to the field you wish to intern in through keyword search.
b. Contact the HR of the Robert Bosch office you wish to intern at, through your training and placement cell. You need to contact the office two months prior to the period you’re available for internship.
c. Apply through job openings posted on LinkedIn.
d. Bosch also visits a few selected Indian colleges to recruit interns.
What after applying ?
Undergraduate students are asked either to upload their resume while applying online (company website or LinkedIn) or to send in their resumes to the HR they communicated with. Following an initial shortlisting of candidates on the basis of resumes, telephonic interviews are conducted in 1st week of April. Technical questions asked mostly pertain to your past projects along with several basic automobile related questions. Few sample technical questions asked are:
What is ABS ?
Explain counter sneering.
How to analyze pitch in a bike?
Define motion ratio.
The HR questions asked are pretty standard like:
Tell me about yourself ?
What are your biggest strengths?
What do you expect from this internship?
What are you career goals?
Post the interviews, the results are announced within the next 2-3 working days of the interview. The interns are allotted a team of around ten members to work with. Each intern is assigned a manager who is a senior employee at the office. The evaluation pattern varies from team to team. Though, in general the interns are required to give weekly presentations regarding the progress of their work to their respective teams.

- Being well versed with Matlab and possessing good coding skills are a prerequisite for the internship.
- Good knowledge of vehicle dynamics is a must for mechanical students.
- Good hold on micro-controllers is a big plus for electronics students.
- Questions on basic physics concepts like friction, centrifugal force can be asked so make sure you get your basics right first!
Getting placed: There is a very realistic chance of getting a pre-placement offer for 3rd year undergraduate interns. Apart from this, you have the chance of getting the exposure of working at one of the most advanced automobile plants so make the most out of it.
Unique Work Culture: All the interns are treated like employees of the company. You usually call your managers by their first name. The interns will mostly work in special project teams. They are encouraged to plan out every single hour of their work, right from morning 9 AM to evening 6 PM.
Mentorship: The interns get the chance of working alongside professionals across the globe. Bosch is known to attach great importance to team work and togetherness. Apart from the tremendous exposure one gets, all the interns get to make priceless contacts with professionals from various disciplines throughout.
