How I built my first robot
About the author: Shambhavi Verma is pursuing M.Sc in Mathematics with a dual degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS, Pilani. A very intelligent student with an urge to learn new technologies, she came across the Internshala Trainings for Robotics training.
There I was, in front of my laptop screen with the tab URL reading ‘Learn Robotics Online in 6 weeks’. I had spent about 5 minutes hovering my mouse on the signup button after I filled my details and during the whole time two tiny voices were arguing in my head over the decision to be taken.
The grumpy and heavier tone said, “You have no idea about robotics! And 6 weeks! No one can teach you anything in 6 weeks! You have classes, practicals, exams! You can never do this!”
“Let’s try at least! It seems good and it is affordable. Go for it!”, said the sweet, angelic voice.
I thank heavens that I listened to the latter!
I did not know much about Robotics, but I was interested in learning something in that field. I stumbled across Internshala Online Trainings through Facebook and I went through the Robotics course. After the fierce debate in my head, I thought it would be a good idea to do something constructive during the vacation rather than going on endless meetings with my bed :p . So, I registered for the course.
Then started a journey about which I hardly have anything to complain. The beauty of the tutorials is that they start from the basics and then gradually proceed to advanced levels. The course is divided into 4 modules and the exercises help in better building of the concepts. The quiz at the end of each module ensures that you completely understand the topic before moving to the next one. It helps you analyze and enhance your performance.
Learning something online, there’s a fair chance of losing interest halfway through the course. If you get stuck at a particular concept and there’s no one (in-person) to explain it to you, you lose interest in the subject. But the promptness of the Internshala team in responding to queries and the clarity in providing solutions is almost like there’s an online teacher always ready for you! On the top of it, you don’t lose out on your precious time. You learn at your own pace and if you actually want to learn, you will certainly finish the course smoothly on time.
Talking about the course, there’s a project at the end which requires building of a robot. Needless to say, one has to be very careful while handling the components. During my project, after working on the circuit for nearly two hours, just when I had almost built the robot, I accidentally damaged one of the components. I was pretty sure that all my effort and money (actually, half of it :p) just went down the gutter but then I decided to ping Team Internshala about my problem on live chat support. Within minutes of doing that, I got a call from the support team and my issue was fixed (it was pretty simple actually). Oh! That feeling!
So, building the robot was fun. It actually reminded me of my childhood days when I used to play with remote controlled and autonomous cars. Now that I have built them myself (and that too in 6 weeks), I kind of feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Above all, this course has increased my curiosity to learn further about related fields.
On a parting note, I would like to thank the Internshala team for their awesome course and wholesome support.
