Internship at Kvantum Marketing Insights Pvt. Ltd. – Annukampa froma Invertis University,Bareilly
When you feel like quitting, think about why you started. Annukampa (left-most girl in the front row) is a Computer Science engineer and shares her experience of internship days.
It is always said, “It’s the last chance when you need to gather courage to continue else you can easily give up”. The same happened to me. Since my second year of B.Tech I had been applying for internships, even if I got selected in one I could not make it up to the last. But every cloud has a silver lining, my last try worked and I got selected in Kvantum Marketing Insights Pvt.Ltd as a front end developer intern.
Regarding the selection process, initially I had a general conversation with the HR about myself, adaptability to a new place etc. and at the end of this conversation I was informed that this would be followed by a technical interview. After few days I had a technical round in which general concepts regarding C and Java were tested. The final round was with the CEO: Harpreet Singh, in which he asked me about my third year project , its functionality and also told me the new technologies on which I would be working. All these conversations and interviews were telephonic. It was in January 2015, that the HR informed me about the joining details and asked my preference regarding the branch – Gurgaon or Noida, I chose Noida.
In the mean time I was mailed the Day 1 schedule and the welcome kit, in which I was informed about the aims and policies we follow at the company. Also I was assigned a career manager and a buddy (team member). So before arriving at the office I had to call my buddy which I did and asked him certain details. And yes then finally it was the big day – my first day at the Kvantum office, Noida.
It was 9 am on 21 January 2015, when I was sitting in the lounge waiting for the HR and within few seconds she appeared and took me to the office. The view of the office was amazing. There were white open cubicles, with walls painted white and brown with pictures of historical monuments on it. At first I was introduced to all the team members, then I was given the stationery and then finally the laptop to work upon. The best thing of our cell was that it was closest to the café. Next, I had two meetings, one was with my career manager who told about all that we do in the development team, which technologies we work upon and gave me my first assignment. The second meeting was with the HR who described us about the norms we follow in the company, the dress code i.e. business casuals, the flexible timings , the culture of calling people by their names , no sir no ma’am.
Initially when we joined the company we were not so aware of what it actually does and where the development team came into existence, but later on this problem was also rectified by a meeting with the director who explained us all these things in detail and what our roles were. After the meeting we could easily describe what the company actually did. Basically, Kvantum is a two year old start-up led by the IIT alumni HarpreetSingh, Shilpi Sharma and a team of twenty eight people. At Kvantum we develop, deploy and commercialize mathematics and artificial intelligence based products to solve complex business problems in marketing, operations, supply chain and finance.
People generally say that the meetings are always boring but we interns (in all five) used to just enjoy them, especially the ones held with the co-founder of the company: Shilpi. This particular meeting was held once every two weeks, in which again we first ourselves studied the huge marketing terms like marketing attribution, cross channel marketing and then we were questioned by her, in order make our understanding much more enhanced about the company for which we were working.
The best thing of being an intern here was that we all were never considered just an intern who would come for few months and then go, in fact each and every intern was given priority and were treated as a full time employee. We used to be part of all the company-wide meetings or in our own app development team’s meetings. Each day we were assigned tasks. When we became quite familiar with the technologies like angularjs, highcharts.js, we were asked to fix bugs and add certain features in the application. Also we needed to submit a daily status to our career managers at the end of the day.
The coolest thing of being at Kvantum was the wide expansion of learning more and more things, more precisely and in depth. No matter wherever we were stuck in the code, our career managers and buddies always rescued us but initially we also had to work for it. I also liked the way we communicated using Skype , the video chats and infact Kvantum has its own means of socializing i.e. through Yammer.com, where we discussed any specific subject like Javascript as the different groups have been created and Kvants can follow any of them according to their interests. Also here the news regarding Kvantum and its growth is shared which is obviously a proud moment for all of us.
And yes the other amazing things were the birthday and the farewell parties we used to celebrate. But the blast is still left, Kvantum always organizes a recreation trip for all its employees and this time we had it in the month of June. Everyone, especially the interns were really excited about this.
At last I would only say that I would miss these days a lot, particularly the whole Noida team, the giggles, the jokes cracked by Sudhanshu sir, Niva-who would always be there for any help or any discussion, Rahul sir, Sandeep sir, Varun, Siddharth’s questions, and yes the app development team- Ravikant sir, Ravinder, Anshul – all of them were always there to guide me and help me achieve what I am capable of. These moments would always be cherished.
