Internship at Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) – Farhan from University of Engineering and Tecnology Taxila, Pakistan
Don’t stop when you are tired, stop when you are done. Farhan is pursuing Electrical Engineering and shares his wonderful experience of internship days.
Well it started off in an air conditioned room with the Superintendent Engineer of LESCO. After a firm handshake he spoke to me politely citing that had we no family relations it would not have been possible to receive polite behaviour from a Government employee on duty. Then he called his clerk and he handed me a piece of paper and advised me to hand it over to the SDO of the Grid Station.
So, finally I went there to the Grid station with enthusiasm and a lot of things in my mind. I thought about the big electrical Machinery, transformers, big Control units etc. However when I went there I realised that although it was a quite a big room equipped with Electrical stuff, it was not enough according to my expectations. There were only two people out there and a ceiling fan. My hopes were shattered as I handed over the paper to SDO. After that they asked about me about myself and everything else and we continued having only formal talks and not technical. Suddenly the SDO told me that the first day of my internship was over and I could go back home and come back the next day equipped with a pen and a notebook. However on the second day I learnt some good and informal stuff. It went like that for the next four weeks. I used to cut off the lights of specific area of Town according to the timetable and for that I had to push down big lever.
