Internship at Womenhomebiz – Saloni from NMIMS
About the Author: Saloni Singhal, an MBA+B.Tech integrated student from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, reminisces about her days as the Digital Media Marketing Intern for Womenhomebiz.com
It was during my second year at college when I realized that I needed to work on something more practical besides academics. I decided to look for an internship which would help me look at my course more realistically. Considering my college hours, I knew I wouldn’t be able to cope with a regular internship. So, I decided to opt for a virtual internship instead. Without wasting time, I signed up on Internshala. I scanned 20 internship options that fulfilled my requirements and went on to apply for three of them — hoping for the best. Three days after I applied, I got a call from the Managing Director at Womenhomebiz.com. “Congratulations! You have been selected as an intern. We don’t have any vacancies but I loved your profile. We won’t be able to pay you a stipend, but the company would love to work with you,” the voice said. I was on cloud nine. Utilizing my free time wisely was the only aim. What added to my joy was the fact that the company was a start-up, an idea that had always appealed to me.
I was appointed as the Digital Media Marketing intern. I was so fascinated when the M.D. called me to explain the brilliant concept behind the portal. He told me how things would go about and what were the company’s expectations from me. In no time, I was given access to the Facebook and Twitter account of the portal. My responsibility was to publish posts, after getting them reviewed by the senior employees.
Through this internship, I learned how to communicate with people, how to tackle my competition, and how to cope with failures. You know, it’s heartbreaking when you work so hard on a piece and it’s left unacknowledged by your audience. Nevertheless, it’s the effort that eventually matters. The sense of satisfaction that one derives after working so hard and publishing a post online is incomparable!
In between all these ups and downs, three months of my internship went by. Though I didn’t earn anything in currency, but the exposure and experience that I gained will forever be cherished.
