Internship opportunities grew by 73% in 2021
Covid-19 has impacted each and everyone over the past two years. Recruiters and students were especially affected by it and had to suddenly adapt to the online mode of work and education which had its own challenges initially. However, all these challenges only made their spirits stronger. This was reflected in the rising trends of internship opportunities offered to the students in the past year. The year 2021 saw a rise of 73% in internship opportunities. The constant rise in internships over the years only indicates that the year 2022 is going to bring a plethora of opportunities for the aspiring students of India.
Management, media, and engineering fields offered the maximum opportunities
In 2021, the management field saw a maximum number of internships with 4% opportunities in profiles like marketing, business development, sales, digital marketing, branding, customer service, market research, finance, human resources, and operations. The second most popular field was media at 25% offering internships in profiles including content writing, journalism, editorial, blogging, copywriting, social media marketing, PR, photography, and videography. Following management and media was the field of engineering with 1% internships in fields including but not limited to programming, software development, Android and iOS app development, software testing, CAD design, electrical engineering, IoT, web development, and game development.
Top in-demand skills will be AI, blockchain, data science, and machine learning
With the rapid rise in technology-enabled sectors such as IT and fintech, the role of tech skills like AI and machine learning will continue to grow in 2022 along with the popular in-demand skills like digital marketing, web development, Python, etc. As per the records, 53.8% of Indian youths are still not employable; this is where training the students with these industry-required skills can help overcome the issue.

Assured stipend was offered for the internships
In addition to offering meaningful learning experiences, all the internships in the past year offered an assured stipend to the students. The maximum stipend offered for an internship was ₹75,000 and an average stipend of ₹6500 was offered for each internship in the past year.
Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore offered the most internships
Over the years, a constant trend has been that the maximum number of internships were offered in metropolitan (tier-1) cities. However, in the past year, tier-2 cities like Jaipur and Ahmedabad made it to the top 10 cities creating internship opportunities for the students of India. According to the report, Delhi-NCR offered the maximum number of internships at 37%. Delhi was followed by Mumbai and Bangalore at 17% and 10% respectively. Jaipur and Ahmedabad offered 3% internships each among other major cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.
More work from-home-internships in 2021
Since the Covid-19 outbreak began in March 2020, a continuous increase in the work-from-home internships has been observed. In the year 2020, a rise of 60% was observed in the number of virtual internships. This number has only improved in 2021 as it saw a rise of 73% in work-from-home internship opportunities. This is a promising trend for the students aspiring to pursue work-from-home internships from the safety and comfort of their homes in the year 2022.
