MTBI Summer Program – Maths / Biology – Arizona, USA
This intensive eight-week summer research experience for undergraduates in Tempe, Arizona prepares promising young scientists interested in working at the interface of mathematics, statistics and the natural and social sciences for the rigors of graduate studies. MTBI is a research experience for undergraduates. The last date to apply is 1st March 2013.
About MTBI: – Established in 1996 at Cornell University, the Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute (MTBI, http://mtbi.asu.edu/about) was moved to Arizona State University in the spring of 2004. MTBI supports the development of students through educational, research and mentorship activities from the undergraduate to the postdoctoral level. Its programs include intensive multiple-summer research training institutes, long-term support for its alumni, continuous research opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students and opportunities for national and international visitors.
About Internship: – Participants receive intensive instruction in dynamical systems, stochastic processes, computational methods and modeling delivered by top scientists and special guest lecturers and colloquia speakers. Students work in self-selected groups on research problems of their own choosing in collaboration with experienced faculty and graduate students mentors. By the end of the program, students have completed technical report and poster and oral presentation to peers and scientists.
Who can apply: –
- Undergraduates who have completed at least their sophomore year
- Majoring in math, biology, or related fields
- At least one year of calculus
Location: – Tempe, Arizona, USA
Duration: – 5th June – 27th July, 2013
Stipend: – For international students the award amount varies year on year. Last year for example, selected international students were provided with housing and a modest meal stipend. For this year the award amount would be notified of by 20th March 2013
