National Institute of Genetics Intern Program – Life Sciences – Japan
National Institute of Genetics (NIG)/ Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI offers a 10 week research internship program for undergraduate students who wish to gain experience in scientific lab work. NIG has 41 labs, studying a variety of topics in life sciences, including molecular and cell biology, developmental biology, plant biology, neurobiology, population biology and evolution, structural biology, genome biology and bioinformatics.
It’s an all expense paid internship program and the last date to apply is January 25, 2013 – hurry!
About National Institute of Genetics: – The National Institute of Genetics was established in 1949 as the central institute to study various aspects of genetics. It was reorganized in 1984 as an inter-university research institute to promote collaborations with researchers at universities. Since 1988, NIG has been participating in graduate education as the Department of Genetics of the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI). NIG also serves as a center for various genetic resources such as mutant strains, clones and vectors, and houses DDBJ, the DNA Data Bank of Japan, and a DNA sequencing center.
About Internship: – Each intern will join ongoing research projects in a world-class research group. Interns can also participate in various departmental activities, such as lectures for our graduate students, journal clubs, and seminars by outstanding researchers in and out of NIG. Japanese lessons are also available.
Who can apply: – Prefinal year undergraduates (3rd year of 4-year Bachelor course, 4th year of 5-year Master/ Bachelor dual-degree course) or 1st year students of 2-year master course are eligible to apply for NIGINTERN 2013.
Location: – Mishima, Shizuoka, Japan
Duration: – 10 weeks (Anytime between mid May to September 2013)
Stipend: – Stipend will be provided to cover traveling and living expenses, lodging in the institute’s guesthouse and overseas travel accident and sickness insurance.
