Sports Management Internship in Delhi – Kundan from CUSAT

Being a sports enthusiast, I started looking for internships that would give me the opportunity to work closely with the sports management organisations. However, no sports company was offering an internship at that point of time. Disappointed, I opted for a marketing internship offer at a construction company. One evening, I received an email from that company cancelling my internship due to certain financial constraints. Life hit me hard because this happened just twelve days before my joining date. Given the circumstances, my father encouraged me to keep checking Internshala. He convinced me that something better was waiting for me.
After exactly three days, life chose to surprise me, yet again! The surprise came in the form of a vacancy at Khelfie, an online sports management portal. The interview consisted of questions about my previous experience in sports events and marketing, my knowledge about sports, and how many days I could work for Khelfie. I answered each question very frankly and genuinely. I think what stood out on my resume was my professional sports background and the past certifications. When I got the internship, I felt like my hard work had finally paid off!
My internship started in Delhi. I was introduced to all the employees on my first day. Next, we had a discussion about the improvement of the Khelfie app. My first task involved working on Khelfie’s “AurTez” campaign, through which Delhi-NCR’s Top 15 bowlers were selected. For the same, I had to market the app in schools and academies across Delhi. Besides marketing, I worked on the app improvement to meet the requirements of our customers (coaches, players, and academies). I also suggested numerous marketing strategies for the app during Indian Premier League (IPL).
The meetings with sports professionals gave me a lot of exposure. I witnessed how the academies in India function. Working with young sportsmen and watching their enthusiasm on the field gave me a sense of satisfaction of being able to help them and consequentially, the future of sports in our country. The most memorable experience for me was the opportunity to meet Virender Sehwag, Madan Lal, and the other eminent sports icons of India.
My internship ended with a farewell party. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I gained a lot of things like the stipend, letter of recommendation, exposure, contacts in the sports industry, unforgettable memories of Delhi, and also discovered a new me.
