Since I don’t belong to any tier-1 engineering colleges of India therefore I had to dig in with all labor to arrange for myself an internship with a minimum duration of 4 weeks. At the end everything turned out to be futile and I ended up in BSNL with an unpaid internship. When the name of BSNL pops up on any internship portal you instantly refresh back to the previous page, and that’s the reason why most of the people stay away from doing internship with such organization. I too had lot (of) apprehensions about my internship but the scenario was completely different with what I experienced out there. For the first time RTTC(regional training centre) of Lucknow arranged an internship program strictly meant for the guys who’ll be entering into the final year and the venue allotted was also only one throughout the city which means lots of people will turn up in a single place which I can guarantee has happened
On the first day the syllabus of the internship was elaborated to us which was done by our training Supervisor Mr. TD Mishra. The whole syllabus was divided into 5 parts and around 5-7 co-coordinators were allotted for it. In the initial days we were exposed to the basic fundamentals of the telephony system and the traits of the network that BSNL provides. The advantages of BSNL over other private telecom service provider, the add-on facilities of BSNL, broadband services, wireless service, ISDN, wimax, GSM etc. All these things were covered up during the course with complete elaboration. Apart from the theoretical sessions we were given hands on session to practice on how to configure the router, work on the IP tables, configuring the LAN port, creating the adhoc networks n lot of other stuffs. We even had visit to the MDF (Main Distribution Frame) and MSC (Main Switching Centre) to know the working of these systems. We were also exposed to the Siemens hardware which is used for the fusion of two optical fibers and later discussed in detail how this application has been useful to the organization by encompassing more people to handle at the same time. Apart from the things I mentioned above I also got an opportunity to work on a project which immensely helped me to brush up my technical skills and get a hand-on session on a live project.
In the end I will like to give an ending note that if you’re willing to go for an internship in BSNL remove all your apprehensions about this organization, the way BSNL is portrayed on portals is worlds apart from what I have experienced over there. Last but not the least I would say that the mentors out there in BSNL are also very supportive (and) everyone makes it a point to clear the concept to each and every individual and encourage people to come up with new ideas and be interactive throughout the session. On a nutshell one should go for BSNL without any apprehension and get a taste of the organization in your own way.
