Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2022 – Results
We feel delighted to announce the winners of Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2022. Congratulations Jasmeet Kaur (the one on the left) and Isha Kumari! :)
Jasmeet is a first-year student pursuing B.Com (Hons.) from Mata Gujri College, Punjab. She lives in a family of 10 members wherein her father, uncles, sister, and Jasmeet are the sources of income. Her father, who has had a hearing and speaking disability since birth, runs a shoe store with her uncle; her sister is a school teacher, and Jasmeet is a part-time tutor who teaches Math to 6 students. Despite these efforts, financial difficulties have persisted, but Jasmeet has shown immense grit and continued her education.
Being academically bright and a state-level hockey player in school, Jasmeet received financial assistance from her teachers and a scholarship which helped her complete her schooling. However, she is currently struggling to pay the college fee for this semester. While the previous semester’s fee was managed by her sister by asking for help from friends, they are unable to pay the upcoming semester’s fee. Hence, she plans to use the scholarship amount of Rs 17,000 to pay her college fee.
Our second winner, Isha Kumari, is a third-year chemical engineering student from BIT Sindri, Jharkhand. Isha has been fighting financial and emotional odds since childhood. When she was 6 years old, her father passed away due to liver jaundice. After that, her family faced a lot of financial and social challenges. Consequently, the family moved from their home in Kolkata to Sindri to stay with Isha’s maternal grandparents.
During her school years, she was cared for by her grandparents through the pension they received as municipal workers. As Isha performed well academically, she also received academic assistance from Prayas, an NGO run by students from BIT Sindri. Being determined and relentless in her pursuit of education, she was able to get a category rank of 200 in JEE exams and secured admission in BIT Sindri.
After her grandparents’ death, Isha moved in with her mother, who runs a tailoring shop, to provide for Isha’s three younger siblings. To help the family financially, Isha got a job as an admission counsellor during lockdown. However, the job required her to spend 8 hours which impacted her studies, and she had to leave. After this stint, she worked as a part-time teacher last year, but she had to stop pursuing it to manage her studies.
Isha is currently living with her maternal uncle in Sindri. Due to the pandemic, college classes have been taking place online. So she could afford the fee for the previous semesters. She is, however, struggling to pay the 5th semester’s fee. Therefore, she plans to use the scholarship amount of Rs 8,000 to pay that along with taking vocational training, which will help her pursue a career in chemical engineering.
Internshala feels honored to have chosen Jasmeet and Isha as the winners of Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2022. We sincerely hope that this scholarship amount paves the way for a successful career and inspires many more women throughout the country to pursue their own dreams even more relentlessly.
