Selected among 10176 candidates, Maryam is a 4th-year student pursuing an integrated course in Information Technology at SP College in Kashmir. She comes from a family of five. Over the past few years, Maryam’s family has faced numerous challenges due to the political instability in the region and the Covid-19 outbreak, resulting in a halt of operations at her father’s bookshop which used to be their sole source of income.
Such was her grit that she took it upon herself to support the family in these trying times. Maryam started giving private tuitions in 2019. However, this was not enough to sustain the family’s needs and she struggled with severe anxiety as a result. Despite these challenges, Maryam has been able to maintain a strong academic record throughout her schooling and college years.
Despite her father’s efforts to revive the bookshop, the financial burden remains primarily on him, making it difficult for Maryam to pay her college fees for the remaining semesters. With this in mind, Maryam intends to use the scholarship amount to cover her college fees and ensure that she is able to earn her integrated degree without any financial strain. She recognizes the importance of obtaining her degree in order to achieve her future goals and improve her family’s financial situation. By receiving this scholarship, Maryam hopes to take a step forward towards realizing her dreams and making a positive impact on her family and community.
Internshala is deeply honored to announce Maryam as the recipient of the Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls 2023. We strongly believe that this scholarship will provide a solid foundation for a successful career and serve as an inspiration to other girls and women in the country to pursue their dreams with even more determination.
Internshala Career Scholarship for Girls was instituted on 29th December 2012 due to the sad coincidence of the Delhi rape victim’s passing away on the same day as that of Internshala’s second anniversary. We have aimed to advance one girl’s career every year through an award of Rs 25,000.
The selection criteria for the scholarship award are four-fold:

3. An element of purpose
4. An element of need
