Internship with Ashoka Innovators – Social Entrepreneurship – Bangalore, India
In last few weeks I have talked about a few social entrepreneurship internships on this blog but this one is the biggest of them all. If thought of working at a social venture excites you, how about working with a global organization which nurtures, mentors and networks 2,500 leading social entrepreneurs across the world? You are restricted only by your imagination on what you can learn and achieve during course of this internship. Sky is the (lower) limit and you can NOT afford to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity. I only wish I came to know about something similar 5 years ago, then I would not have posted it on the blog –would have joined all by myself without ever telling anyone of you!
It’s a pleasure and an honor to talk about Ashoka (www.ashoka.org) and the internship opportunity available with them. Ashoka India is looking for students who are passionate about social entrepreneurship to lead two main efforts in India: develop a Fellows knowledge management platform and identify senior entrepreneurs to join the Ashoka team.
About Ashoka: – Ashoka (www.ashoka.org) is the global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs—men and women with system changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems. Over a 30 year span, Ashoka has elected and funded over 2,500 leading social entrepreneurs in more than 70 countries. This is the asset base on which they are building a powerful new platform for social change. Ashoka connects entrepreneurs from all sectors, unlock new capital, and find patterns of powerful, scalable impact. Beyond that, it strives to create a world where everyone, not just an elite few, has the self-permission and resources necessary to be powerful changemakers: people that impact their communities in positive, lasting ways. Ashoka has a powerful brand and a history of massive impact as an innovator in the field.
About the Internships:
Fellowship Program – Ashoka has a network of over 350 Fellows in India, offering services and opportunities designed to meet Fellows’ needs at all stages of their entrepreneurial careers. Collaborating across regions and fields, Ashoka Fellows achieve results more powerful than what they could accomplish on their own. The citizen sector has changed a lot in the last 5 years and Ashoka wants to understand better the Fellows’ needs and develop new partnerships and services that will address these needs. To achieve that, Ashoka wants an intern who can capture all Ashoka Fellows’ information and their needs, identify potential products and services Ashoka should offer to the fellowship and who could be the best partners to deliver them. The intern needs to enjoy working with knowledge management and should have the analytical skills to come up with new ideas for the fellowship.
Leadership Search – During rapid growth and expansion, Ashoka seeks to develop “regional hubs”, which will be responsible for translating the organization’s core vision into a local context. The strategy is to build a team of 6 senior leaders who will collectively drive Ashoka’s South Asia transition. This senior leadership team will be responsible for shaping the vision and strengthening Ashoka’s local team, building new and stronger bridges between corporations and citizen sector organizations, and, engaging creatively with leading business entrepreneurs who want to make a meaningful contribution to society. Ashoka wants an intern who could lead the outreach effort for the search and recruiting process. The intern will map out India in search of key veins (individuals, organizations, sectors) where one is likely to find entrepreneurs through a market segmentation process; use this research to determine the fields Ashoka should focus on in order to find potential staff candidates; reach out to potential candidates, and possibily interview some of them.
